Two common requirements when entering
data in MS Excel are the repetition of a particular number across
a range of cells and the creation of a series of numbers, dates,
etc. |
| |
|
| |
There are many different types of series. Some
examples of these are shown in the following table. |
| |
 |
| |
|
| |
The technique used for creating a series is called AutoComplete.
At the start of the range of
cells enter two examples of the series into two contiguous cells;
in this example January and February. |
| |
 |
| |
|
| |
Left-click
mouse button and select the two cells, then drag the ‘handle’ (square,
black box in the lower right-hand corner of the second cell you highlighted)
across the required range. When you release the left mouse button
the series will be displayed in the cells that you have dragged across.
As you drag across the required range a pop-up box indicates the
last value in the range; in this example March is shown to the right
of the third cell after dragging the ‘handle’. |
| |
|
| |
At the start
of the range of cells enter the number you wish to repeat.
Left-click to select the
cell and drag the handle which appears in the bottom right
hand corner across the required range.
Release the left
mouse button and the contents of the cell will be repeated
in the cells that you have dragged across. |

apply the format to the selected range of cells.
You may also want to select options
