Save a Backup Copy of Excel Workbook(s)
To have Microsoft Excel automatically create a backup copy of any workbook when you make changes, you need to set the option for each Excel workbook.

To set this option before a new workbook has been saved:
1. Left-click File
2. Left-click Save As instead of Save
3. Left-click on the dialog box's Tools button
4. Left-click on the General Options button
5. Left-click to check-mark the "Always create backup" box
6. Left-click on OK button, then Save.

To activate the option for a previously saved workbook, follow the same initial procedure. When Excel prompts "The file already exists. Do you want to replace the existing file?" click on Yes. Excel then creates a backup copy in the form Backup of filename
