Formatting a Diskette and Copying a Disk for Macintosh
   
How Do I Format a Diskette?
  To prepare an unformatted diskette, for use in a Macintosh computer, follow these steps.
1. Insert a diskette into the computer’s floppy drive (an icon with “untitled” appears on desktop)
2. Click Special on the menu bar of desktop
3. Click Erase disk
4. Screen appears with “Completely erase disk named “untitled (internal drive)”?
Name: Untitled
Format: Macintosh 1.4MB
5. Click Erase button (screen appears “Erasing disk…”)
After formatting of the diskette is complete you will be able to save Macintosh files on it.
   
To remove the diskette:
  1. Highlight the diskette icon that is on the desktop screen
2. Click Special
3. Click Eject
   
How Do I Copy All Files From One Diskette to Another?
  1. Insert source diskette, with saved files to copy, into the diskette drive (disk’s contents will appear in new window on desktop)
Note: You can write-protect the diskette by moving the sliding tab on the back of the disk, near the top.
2. Click and drag the highlighted folder(s)/file(s) that you want to copy to ‘Macintosh HD’ or whatever name your computer’s hard drive has assigned to it (after chosen file(s)/folder(s) are copied, a new icon of a diskette with Folder name appears on desktop).
Alternatively, click Edit from menu bar, choose Select All.
3. Drag the icon to the ‘Macintosh HD’ icon on desktop (wait until it has copied all files to the hard drive)
4. Select the floppy disk icon with the folder(s) name on desktop
5. Open File on menu bar
6. Choose Put Away
7. Insert a blank, formatted, floppy diskette into drive bay
8. Click the folder icon of the diskette copied (on desktop) and drag to ‘Macintosh HD
Note: A copy of original folder(s) remains on hard drive.
   
Alternatively: Disk to Disk Copy
  1. Insert the source diskette, with the saved files that you want to copy, into the disk drive (the disk’s contents will appear in a new window on the desktop).
2. Press the Command key (also called the Apple key) and E simultaneously
Note: A ghost image of the disk will still appear on the desktop.
3. Insert the target disk you want to copy to (it’s icon will show up on the desktop).
4. Drag the ghost image disk on the desktop onto the new disk icon.
