Converting Files Between Different Versions of Office Software
     
Use the following set of matrixes to find out what happens when you use a Microsoft® Office program to open a file from a different version of that program. Exceptions are noted within each table.
     
  - Microsoft Word - Microsoft Access
  - Microsoft Excel - File Viewers
  - Microsoft PowerPoint  
     
Definitions:
  · Read: Application can read the file format without a viewer or converter

· Write: Application can write to the native file format with little or no degradation between versions

· Open: Application can open but you cannot save back into the original format

· Design & Create: Database can be designed and created in that version
