MS Word Superscript and Subscript
   
  You can create subscript or superscript characters, or you can raise or lower text without changing its size.
   
Subscript text or numbers
  Subscript text appears slightly lower than other characters on the same line. Subscript characters are often used in scientific or mathematical formulas.

To get the 2 to appear in subscript after the X
1. Select the text you want to format as subscript; For this example 2

2. On the Format menu, click Font, and then click the Font tab.

3. Select the Subscript check box.

   
Superscript text or numbers
  Subscript text appears slightly higher than other characters on the same line. MS Word automatically formats note reference marks as superscript characters. For example:

To get the 12 to appear above the word baskets
1. Select the text you want to format as superscript; For this example 12

2. On the Format menu, click Font, and then click the Font tab.

3. Select the Superscript check box.

To have the Answer Wizard walk you through the steps, click on Help, Contents and Index, Contents, Formatting, Formatting Characters, Raise or Lower Text.

In the dialog box that appears, under the What do you want to do? For example click on the button that is located in front of Subscript Text or Numbers. This will take you to the next dialog box that has a box with a curved arrow directly in front of Show Me. Click on this box to open the Answer Wizard.
