My Drop Box for Students

Submitting Papers

Step 1 — go to the website http://mydropbox.com

Step 2 — Each class has a unique Class ID Number and Password.

Your teacher will give you the Class ID and password.

Enter the Class ID number in the Login Text Box and the Password in the Password Text Box. Then click on the double arrow or press Enter.

Caution: Do not click on the question mark.

Step 3 — Submitting Your Paper

Personal Information — In the area labeled as A use the drop down arrow to select the assignment.  Enter your email address, your name, and a title for your submission.

My Drop Box offers two methods for submitting a paper:  copy & paste the text of your paper or submit the text file.

Copy & Paste — Open the computer file containing your paper.  In the Menu Bar click on Edit then Select all.  Click on Edit again and choose Copy.

- Move back to the My Drop Box window.
- In the area labeled as B make sure that “Copy/Paste Document” is selected (look for the green dot).
- Click in the large text box.  You should see an Insertion Point blinking.
- Paste a copy of your paper by going to Edit in the Menu Bar and then Paste.
- Move to Step 4 to finish.

Submit Text File — in the area labeled as C select the option “Upload Document” (look for the green dot) and then click on Browse.  Navigate to the drive or folder containing your paper and Open it.  The Open command will not actually open your file but identifies it to My Drop Box for upload.  Move to Step 4 to finish.

Step 4 Towards the bottom of the screen look for the area labeled as D and click on “Submit Query.”

Viewing Reports

The teacher will choose whether to allow each student to view the report that is created when a paper is submitted. This option is set with each assignment. If that option is selected then the student will receive an email from My Drop Box when the report is available. In the email will be a link. Click on the link to be taken to a website with the report. The link will only take the student to the report for that one paper.

My Drop Box does not differentiate between text enclosed in quotes or text indented to indicate a quote. It seeks only to match text to another source. If a student has used quotes and indentations along with citations to the original material, the material will still be flagged in the report. It is up to each teacher/student to make a distinction between material that has been properly cited and material that has not.

A sample report is provided below.

The section labeled as A indicates the level of authenticity. Section B provides links to websites containing matched text. Within the paper itself each occurrence of matched text is highlighted. Click on the highlighted text to open a window comparing the student’s text with an original source. Section C is an example of this.
