Adware Information
     
 

If you are experiencing pop-up problems, decreased computer or network efficiency, or if you tend to download a lot of files onto your computer through peer-to-peer networking sites, etc.; you may have spyware/adware on your computer.

Adware is a form of spyware that collects information about the user in order to display advertisements in the Web browser based on the information it collects from the user's browsing patterns.

Here are the steps you need to take to remove spyware/adware from your computer.

    1. Go to: http://it.carlow.edu/SpybotInformation/Downloads.htm  where you will download Ad-Aware.
    2. Save to your Desktop.
    3. Double click on the aaw6181.exe icon on your desktop and follow the steps in setup. Continue on in setup and click on Install then Finish.
    4. You can place the icon in the Recycle Bin after the installation has completed.
    5. Click on the Ad-aware 6.0 icon to get started.
    6. Then click on Check for updates now in the lower right hand part of the screen and then click on the Connect   button.
    7. Download any available updates that are listed and click OK to install those updates.
    8. After it is done scanning, click on Next and review the items Ad-aware has found. You will get a screen that looks like this:
   
     
    9. Check all the boxes that Ad-aware lists and then click Next. It will state that these items will be removed and ask if you wish to continue. Click OK.
    10. After it is done removing the objects, you may get a screen like this:
   
     
    11. Click on OK to let Ad-aware remove those items after the next reboot.
You should run Ad-aware at least every other week to ensure that your computer is kept up to date with the various anti-spyware/adware fixes.
    12. When you run Ad-aware, you will need to click Check for updates now. If it finds updates, click OK  to download those updates.
Then click on to scan your computer to check for any adware that might have been added to your computer since the last time Ad-aware was run.
