Spybot Information

 

If you are experiencing pop-up problems, decreased computer or network efficiency, or if you tend to download
a lot of files onto your computer through peer-to-peer networking sites, etc.; you may have spyware on your computer.

Spyware is software that covertly gathers user information through the user's Internet connection without his or
her knowledge, usually for advertising purposes.

Here are the steps you need to take to remove spyware from your computer:

    1. Backup any critical user files on your computer.
    2. Go to: http://it.carlow.edu/SpybotInformation/Downloads.htm  where you will download Spybot Search and Destroy.
    3. Save to your Desktop.
    4. Double click on the spybotsd13.exe icon on your desktop and choose English
from the list of languages and click OK.
    5. Follow the steps in setup and uncheck the boxes that has additional languages and skins.
Continue through the setup and click on Install then Finish.
    6. Allow the program to create registry backup by clicking on Create registry backup. This will take a few minutes.
    7. Then click Next and click on Search for updates and Download any available updates that
are listed. Then click Next.
    8. Click on Immunize this system and click Next.
    9. Click on Start using the program.
    10. Click on and .
    11. You will get a screen that looks like this:
    12. Click on .
    13. It will then prompt you and state: "You are about to remove the checked entries. Do you want to
continue?" Click Yes.
    14. You might get a message at the end stating that not all problems could be fixed and it will ask you
if you want to run Spybot again when you restart your computer. Click Yes.

PLEASE NOTE: You should run Spybot Search and Destroy at least every other week to ensure that your computer is kept up to date with the various anti-spyware fixes.
    15. When you run Spybot Search & Destroy, you will need to click on the Search for Updates button. If it finds
updates, you will need to check the boxes of the updates to download and then click on download updates.
Then click on Search and Destroy and then click on Check for Problems to check for any spyware that
might have been added to your computer since the last time Spybot Search and Destroy was run.If you
