Minimum Computer Requirements

If you are a resident student, you can use our high-speed Ethernet connection to access Carlow's network resources and Internet right from your room. You will not need an Internet Service Provider such as AOL, MSN, or Earthlink.

Commuter students can have access to Carlow's electronic resources from home. You will need to subscribe to a commercial Internet Service Provider (ISP). You may use any ISP to provide this access (e.g. AOL, Earthlink, etc.).

For use with any of these services, we recommend the following computer guidelines:

Processor Pentium 4 or Celeron 2.2 GHz (or better)
  Memory 512 (RAM)
Hard Drive 30 Gb (more is better)
Removable Media (any of the following):
3.5" diskette
CD-ROM drive,
DVD drive
CD-RW drive
(CD burner)
Zip Drives are also available in certain locations on campus
Modem 56 K for dial up connection for computer students
Network Interface Card Desktop: 10/100 Mb Ethernet card - This is required for direct network connection from residence halls.
Laptop: 10/100 Mb PCMCIA card
*You will also need to purchase an Ethernet cable/RJ-45 cable
  Software Windows XP Professional
Microsoft Office XP Professional/Ed (e.g. Word, Excel, Access)
Printer Students living in the residence hall may wish to have their own printer.
