The Webstudent on-line advising and registration website has a brand new look! Over the summer, the IT department teamed up with faculty advisors, the Registrar’s office, Student Accounts, and Financial Aid to upgrade this system. Several faculty members also took time out of their summers to attend ‘mock registration’ sessions to test student and advisor registration. Because completely rewritten programs were installed, everything needed to be tested extensively.

Students and advisors can take advantage of many exciting new features such as:

- Search the Course Catalogue for courses that fulfill Core requirements

- View Financial Aid information, including aid awarded and documents needed (in many cases with web links to those documents!)

- View Student Account invoice

- Produce an unofficial Degree Audit to help student schedule planning

- Password changes now take effect immediately

For students, more information about using Webstudent is available in the Blackboard course

“Orientation on Technology @ Carlow”. All students should already be enrolled in this course.

Faculty advisors may enroll themselves in the Blackboard course “Using Webstudent for Faculty Advisors”. The Academic Advising Committee is also sponsoring an Advising Workshop on August 23, which will include a demonstration. For more information, please contact the Registrar’s Office.

Sisters of Mercy
                  Integrated into Carlow's
                                          Technology Support

The Sisters of Mercy are an integral part of Carlow’s campus history and future. As such, the Information Technology Department has reached an agreement with the leadership of the Sisters of Mercy to help support them in their technology needs. We have already hired an employee, Nicole Starzynski, who will work for the Sisters of Mercy in the mornings and the Carlow Help Desk each afternoon. Nicole’s duties include technical maintenance on the 58 computers owned by the Sisters of Mercy organization. In fact, she has already inventoried all of their systems and installed new anti-virus software. In the future, she will help by providing training to the various Sisters so that they can learn to use the web and the Microsoft Office suite.

In addition, we have moved the content of their website from a site hosted by an external provider to a server located in the Carlow data center and in October, we will be converting their network to the Carlow Campus network. This project will include migrating their wireless connections to the Carlow Wireless network, migrating their email to a server hosted by Carlow, and helping them to move to a PC replacement plan.

We look forward to a long and mutually successful relationship supporting the Sisters of Mercy.
