                            Kimberly
One of our newest Information Technology staff members is Kimberly Hillyard, in our new Instructional Technology area. Kimberly may already be familiar to you as a part-time instructor in Carlow’s Information Systems Management program. She has also had extensive experience teaching math and computer classes at Westmoreland County Community College and Community College of Allegheny County.

This summer, Kimberly provided Blackboard support while Nola Coulson was on maternity leave. In her new position as Instructional Technology Specialist, she will work closely with Nola to continue supporting Blackboard, as well as teach faculty computing workshops.

                                   Nicole
Nicole Starzynski has joined our staff as a Help Desk Analyst/Field Technician. Nicole works half-time as a dedicated technican to support the Sisters of Mercy on campus and half-time for the Information Technology Department.

Nicole is very familiar with both working in higher education and time-critical projects. Her previous experience includes help desk support at Chatham College, and PC and network support for NASCAR.

If you see Kimberly or Nicole on campus, please introduce yourself and join us in welcoming them to our team at Carlow!

In addition to all of the projects already mentioned in this newsletter, there were several other projects that were notable this summer:

In July, Community Education moved from the bottom floors of FWH to the Park Building downtown (diagonal from the Kaufmann’s clock). To accomplish this, the I.T. department analyzed the location, ordered network equipment & phones, dropped new network and phone connections throughout the suite, and provided 8 analog phone lines from Penn Telecom and DSL internet service with a firewall. In addition, 10 of Carlow’s hand-me-down computers were provided to form a small lab for the students.
Tablet PC’s for
education:

The Education department recently ordered 4 tablet PC’s for use by faculty when performing state-required student teacher evaluations. The chosen tablet PC’s were manufactured by HP and were chosen for their light weight and small form factor.
AJP Network closets –
The network connections in AJP were traced out and labeled in the switch gear by our interns from PTI and the student aides. This will allow us to better diagnose and locate potential network problems should a problem occur.
Phone
Inventory –

In May, all campus phones were inventoried and were asset tagged. This will help us to develop a replacement plan for our phones including upgrading some phones to display phones for the primary office areas. If your campus-owned phone does not have a Carlow asset sticker on it, please call the Help Desk at x8700 so that your phone can be considered in our replacement plan.
