Welcome to the Fall 2004 edition of
Bits-n-Bytes!

In this newsletter, you'll find lots of updates on our many of summer projects, including implementing Lotus Notes, PC Distribution, and switching from Novell to Active Directory. You'll also learn about preventing SPAM, keeping your computer running smoothly, and discussions about our upcoming projects.

I'd like to take a moment to thank the Information Technology staff. Never before have we undertaken so many large projects in such a short period of time. They were dedicated, organized, upbeat, and accomplished so very much!

We hope you find this newsletter useful and we value your input. If you have questions or comments about the information in this newsletter, we are eager to talk with you Simply visit our I.T. Helpdesk on the 2nd floor of Antonian Hall, or call us at 412-578-8700. You can also email: helpdesk@carlow.edu.

Lotus Notes Update 6

In mid-July, Carlow took delivery of 59 new desktop computers, 17 new laptops, and 20 Macintosh computers! These computers were distributed to the computer labs, faculty, and staff throughout campus and that process is now complete.

Specifically, the FWH lobby computer lab and AJP 202 received new computers. Additionally, one of most used computer labs, Grace Library 315, received new computer furniture and much newer PC's that were moved from Antonian 401. In addition to these improvements, Antonian 401 was changed to a MAC lab and all new computers were purchased for this lab as well.

We are now in the process of refurbishing those computers that we removed from various labs and offices. This next phase of PC replacement will provide better PC's for various part-time or shared faculty, staff, and student offices/clubs. This phase of distributing refurbished computers will last throughout the month of October.

Not all of the decommissioned computers will be refurbished because some are not able to be re-used on campus. Watch your email later in the semester as we announce another used-computer sale!
