The Information Technology Department helps to service faculty, staff and students throughout the year with both large and small projects. During last fiscal year, the department closed over 2,456 requests, representing well over 4,500 hours of work. This does not include general project work performed on our large projects such as the computer room renovations, network upgrades, PC distributions, or the ID Card project. Our 11 person staff is supplemented with student aides and interns from the Pittsburgh Technical Institute. We are grateful for their help!

These statistics are even more staggering with 731 requests being closed during the period of August 23rd to September 23rd, 2004. This can be compared to just 243 projects during the same period the year before. As of October 1st, our current number of open requests stands at: 325. Please do not hesitate to call if you need help. The helpdesk can be reached at 412-578-8700 or via email at: helpdesk@carlow.edu

Our centralized data center underwent some much needed improvements in the early part of the summer. The improvements included a new electrical feed from Grace Library, a new electrical panel, a 30KVA uninterruptible power supply, a new door, and a raised data-center floor. This has already proven to be a
worthwhile investment of time and money in that we experienced several power outages during September that would have taken the entire data center down without using the proper shutdown techniques. Instead, we were able to stay up and running until power was restored and experienced NO downtime due to the power outages.

the conference last year included faculty, technical support staff, and academic administrators from other regional colleges
and universities. See page 5 for more on Blackboard
