Welcome to the Spring 2005 edition of Bits-n-Bytes!
Welcome to the Spring Edition of Bits-n-Bytes. Since we last wrote to you in January, the I.T. department has been hard at work on many projects including spam filtering, the conversion to Sophos anti-virus, finalizing the conversion to Active Directory, and many other projects. We’ll update you on our progress and tell you about the busy and exciting summer we have planned, including a major wireless project!

In addition, we are proud to report that our customer service satisfaction surveys are still coming in very high. Since January 1st, we’ve improved our ratings: the time it took to service your request went from a 4.63 to 4.75, customer service went from a 4.89 to 4.94 and rating the technician’s ability went from a 4.85 to 4.92 with 342 surveys returned! We are proud of our numbers and will continue to work hard to support our customers.

As always, if you have questions, comments, or suggestions, please contact our helpdesk at x8700 or email us at: helpdesk@carlow.edu

Thank you for your continued patience while we work on these improvements,

Karen Sturgeon
Director, I.T.

Blackboard Announcement

We are pleased to announce that during the 2nd Annual Pittsburgh Blackboard User’s Group Conference that was held here at Carlow in March, Carlow won two software product licenses during the conference raffle.

Dr. Susan O’Rouke won a one-year institutional license for the plagiarism detection software product MyDropBox that will be available for faculty to use campus-wide. MyDropBox offers a number of services to assist faculty in preventing plagiarism. Information on MyDropBox can be found at www.mydropbox.com

Dr. Chrys Gabrich won a 3 month trial subscription to Horizon Wimba’s Live Classroom and Voice Tools applications.

Horizon Wimba’s classroom collaboration solutions enable faculty to use interactive technologies, such as voice, video, application sharing and whiteboarding.

Horizon Wimba will be available for a few faculty to use during the fall semester.
Information on Horizon Wimba can be found at www.horizonwimba.com

If you are interested in learning more about using MyDropBox or Horizon Wimba, please contact Nola Coulson, Coordinator for Online Courses at coulsonna@carlow.edu
