| Spam
is unwanted e-mail. It is usually an unsolicited commercial e-mail
sent to a large number of addresses and it can clog your email box
with unwanted messages. Carlow has a network appliance in place to
try to eliminate as much spam as possible based upon commonly known
characteristics of spam messages. As of mid-April 2005, the appliance
has been in service to the campus community for approximately 14 months.
During this, time it has blocked
over 6 million spam email messages from the campus and it has quarantined
another 500,00. |
How
should you handle your spam quarantine box? When a spam e-mail message
is delivered to
your Carlow Lotus e-mail account, it will be quarantined. you will
receive a Spam Quarantine Summary email message
with information about the quarantined mail .
| It
is very important for you to review the Spam Quarantine Summary
at least once a week and take one of the following actions: Deliver,
Whitelist, or Delete. |
|
If you
do not choose to Deliver Whitelist or Delete the message the
message will remain in your quarantine box and take disk space on the server.
