Carlow Hosts Conference
Carlow will host the 2nd Annual Pittsburgh Blackboard User’s Group Conference on March 7 & 8, 2005.

Last year over 100 attendees including faculty, technical support staff, and academic administrators from 18 Pittsburgh area Colleges and Universities attended the conference. This year's conference offers 21 faculty and Blackboard support staff presentations, and 7 vendor presentations.

The conference web page is available here. The conference web page includes the conference agenda and the conference registration form.

Please mark your calendars for this faculty and staff development opportunity that will provide the chance for you to share ideas and resources and collaborate with others from around the Pittsburgh area. This will be a great opportunity to learn more about how other faculty are using Blackboard in the classroom.

The following Carlow faculty and staff members will be presenting at the conference. Nola Coulson & Karen Sturgeon: “Using Technology to Introduce Students to Campus Technology Resources”

Denise King: “Integrating Technology in Academic Advising”
Dr. Coralyn McCauley: “Giving Voice: Adult Women Returning to College ‘Take On’ a Discussion Board” (Panel Discussion with 4 students who took the course Adults Returning to Colllege)
Dr. Susan O'Rourke: “Promoting Global Understanding Through International Distance Education Experiences”

The conference fees will be waived for Carlow faculty and staff.

One of the newest members of the Information Technology Department is Alicia Standish. Alicia started working with the I.T. department in March of 2004 as she completed a 3 month web developer internship as a student at the Pittsburgh Technical Institute (PTI). As an intern, she designed the newly renovated Information Technology website and created the design template for the IDCard website. Once she graduated, she was hired as a full-time Carlow web developer in June of 2004 and Alicia Standish immediately contributed by working on the renovations to the Carlow website as we moved to University status. She brings a wealth of skills to the position and we are happy to have her energy and expertise. She works closely with Janine Geibel on all updates to the website and recently completed the new design for the Poetry Forum Archives and Early Learning Center website for the Cranberry campus.
