The Computer Café hosted a grand opening on November 28th. Over 60 people attended! Since then, we have hosted several Computer Café sessions and the reviews have been very positive.
The Computer Café Spring schedule is on the back cover of this newsletter. This semester, we are also opening some of the classes on the new Microsoft products to interested students.
When not in use for a class, the Computer Café is open for faculty and staff use. If you just need a quiet place to work, or if you'd like some personalized instruction on a particular software product, please feel free to stop by the Computer Café at any time! The Computer Café is located on the fourth floor of Grace Library. |

Microsoft has also announced a new version of the Microsoft Office Suite! This new version offers many, many new features and incorporates many changes to the way that Office 2007 looks and feels to the user.
Some of the new features include: new ways to easily format documents, new charting tools to include 3-D graphics, an easy way for users to cite their sources when writing papers, and an easy way to save a document as a PDF file. |
The requirements to run the new software are not astonishing and most computers purchased in the last 2-3 years will handle this easily: 256mb RAM (memory), 2gb of disk space free, 500ghz processor or faster, and Windows XP with Service Pack 2.
Rest assured, we have already started to work with this new version and we will be testing it throughout the Spring semester. Once we have installed the final version of the new software, we will make a PC available in the |
Computer Café for users to try the new software. In the meantime, if you’d like to learn more about it, or preview a demo, you may visit Microsoft’s website at: http://office.microsoft.com. We will also offer numerous Computer Café training classes so that you can easily learn about the changes that you will experience. Further information will follow about when the labs and podium computers will be updated. |

| It’s been nearly 3 years since we completed a comprehensive inventory of all campus-owned computer equipment. Therefore, our technicians will be making their rounds to find and inventory all campus-owned computer equipment across campus.
Please allow the technicians access to your office for just a few minutes. If your equipment is portable, like a laptop, please make sure you either bring it to the helpdesk or make an appointment for us to visit you to ensure it is in the inventory.
This inventory will be used to determine the replacement schedule for the next several years. |

This year, the members of the Information Technology Department showed their teamwork by decorating wreaths. Six wreaths were decorated with these themes: Pittsburgh Penguins, Home for the Holidays, Spin the wreath – See who is Naughty or Nice, Old-fashioned Christmas, Christmas in July, and Frosty the Snowman!
There were over 90 votes cast by people all over campus! The winner was: Frosty the Snowman decorated by: Denise King, Chuck Usher, and Pete Wehner. The winners all received $10 gift certificates for a meal at Eat-n-Park. Congratulations to the winning team!
