Bits-N-Bytes
Welcome to the 2008 Winter Edition of Bits-n-Bytes!

Snowman

Fall 2007 was a wonderful whirlwind first semester at Carlow for me. Many thanks to all of you who have made me feel so welcome. I am thrilled to be a member of the Carlow community and am excited about the Datatel migration and all of the other initiatives the IT department will be working on in 2008. If I haven’t met you yet, please say hi if you see me, and call me (x8741) if I can be of assistance.

In this edition, you will find an updated Datatel project schedule, and information on spam and spyware, the Nursing Skills lab, the Message Boards, Office 2007, using Microsoft software at home, and much more.

Last, but certainly not least, please join me in giving the entire staff of the Information Technology department a hearty and heartfelt “thank you” for the extraordinary effort they expended during the period between Directors in 2007. Their level of commitment and professionalism is inspiring and I am proud to be part of the team.

Technology Advisory Council

This past summer, Dr. Hines created the Technology Advisory Council (TAC). The purpose of the TAC is “… to explore the ever changing opportunities available in the realm of technology, to determine which will effectively, efficiently, and strategically advance the University mission, to set priorities for and communicate technological efforts, and to propose policies for the use of technology at Carlow University.” The TAC reports to the President and the President’s Council. Its initial focus will be on creating an all-encompassing set of technology policies, to create a slate of schools against which to benchmark Carlow’s technology capabilities, and to assist in prioritizing technology projects.

The co-chairs of the TAC are Susan O’Rourke (Chair, Special Education and Instructional Technology) and Kristin Raup (Web Communications Manager, University Communications and Community Relations). Members of the Council represent all aspects of the Carlow community.
