On December 10th the University celebrated the dedication of its new Nursing Skills lab. This area includes two nursing simulation mannequins with simulated breathing and medical reactions that the instructor can customize. In November, members of both the Nursing and Information Technology departments attended a workshop in upstate New York to receive additional instruction on the simulation technology. The skills lab also includes equipment to record and playback audio and video of the nursing students practicing their simulations, a six-bed facility where students can practice their procedures while watching a tutorial on a 32” LCD monitor displayed above each bed, a computer lab, and an instructional classroom with smart classroom technology. Throughout the Fall semester, Media Services worked with the Nursing department to train and assist the faculty with this equipment. Hector Torres is the newest member of the IT staff at Carlow. Hector will be a welcome addition to the Datatel team. He brings strengths in business process analysis, finance, and reporting, and will be focusing on developing expertise in the four Datatel reporting tools, assisting in the migration of the Financial Aid module, and helping with other IT aspects of the Datatel project.
